Are video resumes a good idea? The answer to that question largely depends on who you are. Video resumes are definitely a good idea if you are an articulate, well-groomed, confident individual who finds it easy to communicate with others. Video resumes provide the opportunity to give potential employers an idea of who you are as a person without having to invite you to an interview.
Nevertheless, video resumes are not for everybody. Some people have many excellent job skills and a high standard of education, yet they are shy and react badly to being photographed or recorded. If you are the type of person who is likely to stammer and feel awkward in such a situation, it might be better to avoid making a video resume.
I personally have mixed feelings about video resumes. It’s obvious that video resumes are a very useful tool both for job seekers and employers. Nevertheless, if I were to record a resume I imagine it would take me quite a while to finish it. I tend want everything to be perfect. If I watched a video in which I did something strange with my mouth or sounded ill at ease when I said a certain phrase, I’d delete the whole thing and start over.
