Finding a great job is always a chore. Just thinking about it makes my head ache. My husband just got laid off his construction job, and we are in Arizona, so he is going through the Arizona classifieds to find work, not just locally, but within a 100 mile radius of home. He went through all the Phoenix AZ classifieds in the newspaper and online, made some contacts, but hasn't found anything yet. There is so much competition right now, because the Phoenix AZ real estate market tanked pretty hard, and there is not much new construction going on right now.
We're now using local blogs ad forums where people talk about who is hiring and who is not, and he's getting great information from those sources. I heard once that a small percentage of jobs are listed in the newspaper, so word of mouth, particularly online, is proving to be quite helpful. People are so supportive online, and they really can tell it like it is, so if you are having trouble finding the right job using the local job listings, join a forum or read a blog for more help.
